Watch our Read Scripture video on the book of Judges, which breaks down the literary design of the book and its flow of thought. In Judges, the Israelites turn away from God and face the consequences. God raises judges in cycles of rebellion, repentance, and restoration.

In which John Green teaches you about Homer’s Odyssey. If it was Homer’s If Homer was even real. Anyway, that stuff doesn’t really matter. John teaches you the classic, by which I mean classical, epic poem, the Odyssey. The Journey of Odysseus as he made his way home after the conclusion of the Trojan War is the stuff of legend. Literally. John will teach you about the double standard in Greek culture, Odysseus as jerk/hero, ancient PTSD, and cycles of violence. Also, there are no yogurt jokes. So think of that as a gift.

I was looking and looking for something just like this to inspire me 🙂
Yours was the first that met my needs ♡

  14. I saw the sticky note at the back where you wrote Keith Green and the name of one of his songs. Are you as big a fan as I am? I grew up listening to him and knowing about his tragic death. His music is heavenly, literally. The passion in his voice is so beautiful. Your Love Broke Through is one of my favorites. I like to think that God was just wanted him up there with him because of Keith's great love and devotion to the Father. Love you, Cori and your wonderful ministry. It has blessed me so much!

  16. Your take on Samson is inaccurate. He was given super-human strength to deliver his people. Yes, it would be violent. You're given that amount of power to have tea with all the Philistines.

  17. Hello everyone, I saw that the subs I was working on were pubblished without being finished. How can I fix them?

  18. I was doing some research on Samson and they were saying that he is noted as faithful in Hebrews despite his actions and is used as a foreshadowing of Jesus. If he is the worse of the Judges, how is he a faithful representation of Christ?

  20. I think this story along with the ten commandments puts to bed the notion that socialism is anything other than the satanic ideology that it is. Job was the only person who had their faith tested by having their wealth forcibly redistributed against their will, and it wasn't by God, but by Satan. Which one are we supposed to emulate again?

  21. God has blessed you with a talent so you can illustrate the Bible so beautifully. I'm thankful because I have learned so much and understand the Bible better.

  22. Its really Ironic you drew a picture of the ball Globe as Gods world referring to the book of Job. Where are the foundations?

  23. Is lame excuse buddy
I could be a better God I would let bad suffer us good who 't deserve it
I question his existence as I only suffer and good 't help me I may be job
I live such life I 't need to suffer more why god hates good people he must be evil like the devil

  24. Wow, what an excellent detailed outline of the book of Job. I have always wondered how to approach the center chapters when Job's friends are speaking. I am cautious when scriptures from Job are highlighted in a devotion as we know that Job's friends speak right about God according to Job 42:7. Wondered if anyone else has had that experience.

  25. LOST YOU AT THE: sexual 'double standards'. It exist in ancient Greece (my opinion of course), but revisionism is an ongoing blight on most of literature. Fun watch though, millenniums and younger should really enjoy the cartoons.

  26. years after this comment, i'll probably be showing this video to my child, saying: "See? That's John Green dragging out and hating Greek people. You can learn that from him."

  27. Too much personal idealism and "patriarchy". this is supposed to be an educational video. as propaganda to use as a medium for your personal beliefs.

  28. Uh, so I've been obsessing about Greek mythology (especially the Illiad and the Odyssey) since 5th grade. I have, by now, listened to three separate translations of the Illiad and non of them end with the conflict between Achilles and Agamemnon.
Achilles dies, because of that Ajax dies (one of them anyway, I'm sure which), Odysseus goes to Troy to steal the Palladium, Paris dies and returns to the love of his youth (who then kills herself) etc etc. Troy gets overrun (through a plan of Odysseus' – the famous wooden ), Helena and Menelaus reunite, Kassandra is raped and a whole bunch of other people die (including Hektor's son who, in one of the translations, gets thrown from the city walls after making it extra clear how tiny and affordable he was).

And in the version of the Odyssey I know (only one here), Odysseus 't want to kill what were essentially a group of spoiled teenagers, but Zeus insited and so Athena made sure Odysseus would actually kill them

  29. The Odyssey is long, complicated, and sometimes the characters tend to take the long route to solving problems, but it still was an incredibly enjoyable read. I thought the characters were interesting, the plot was satisfying, and yes, looking at this epic through a modern eye, you do see the period-typical sexism and beliefs that wouldn't register as very heroic today, but then said, this text is thousands of years old. Odysseus wasn't an adulterer, he was forced to sleep with Calypso and Circe. And yes, while those two nymphs aren't exactly supposed to be specifically heroic, they are women with power, which is incredible for that time. I also thought it was as much about Telemachus as it was about Odysseus. The first four books specifically zero in on his quest to learn a both what happened to his dad, and the end is about them working together to kill the suitors. All in all, this was really fun and interesting to read, and Penelope really just gets the short end of the stick the entire time.

  30. What happened to the "this machine kills fascists" sticker on your computer? Are you looking for a more accurate one the says
    "This machine breeds communists?"
